A safe home for children who have lost everything

Afghanistan is among the countries with the highest number of orphaned children in the world. Decades of war, poverty and natural disasters have torn countless families apart. Left behind are children with no one to care for them. Many of them live on the streets, work for a few coins a day or are taken in by relatives who barely have enough to get by themselves.

It is for these children that we are opening an orphanage in Afghanistan. A place where they receive not just a roof over their heads, but a real home: with warm meals, a bed of their own, schooling and people who are there for them. Children who experience safety and care can be children again. And they get the chance to stand on their own two feet later in life.

A Sadaqa Jariya that keeps on giving

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: «I and the one who cares for an orphan will be together in Paradise like this», and he held up his index and middle fingers together (Sahih al-Bukhari). Caring for orphans is among the greatest good deeds in Islam. An orphanage is a Sadaqa Jariya: a donation that keeps doing good for years, as long as children find a home there.
