About Swisslamic

6

Swisslamic Help Organization (SHO) is a Swiss charitable association based in Rheinfelden (AG). We run humanitarian projects and campaigns, provide emergency relief in crisis regions and deliver aid to families in need worldwide.

Our motto: «The blessed way to help» – we bring your donation to the people who need it most, on the most direct and transparent path.

Yes. Since our founding, every franc donated goes directly to people in need – for food, water, medical aid, education and other projects.

This is possible because our entire team works on a voluntary basis. Travel, transport and organisational costs are covered privately or through our separate Supporter Programme – never out of donations.

Both money streams (donations and supporter contributions) run on separate cost centres and are fully documented.

Supporter contributions are a separate, voluntary way to back our organisation. They finance flights, local transport, accommodation during missions, logistics, storage costs and project coordination.

As a supporter you enable us to run more missions, respond faster to emergencies and send more volunteers on site – all without touching donated funds.

You can find the programme via the «Donate Now → Supporter Programme» button on our website.

We are currently active mostly in Asia and Africa, as well as in Europe. Concrete deployment areas:

Africa: Uganda, Chad, Egypt. Asia: Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Bangladesh (Rohingya camps).

Focus areas: emergency aid, food parcels, medical support, orphans, education and water wells.

No, Swisslamic is currently not ZEWO-certified. According to our donation regulations, however, we align our practice with the ZEWO principles for transparent use of funds – complemented by the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our complete use of donations, annual report and the separation between donation funds and organisational costs are publicly available.

Swisslamic Help Organization is a registered association under Swiss law (UID CHE-491.436.072), with its seat in 4310 Rheinfelden (AG).

The board carries overall responsibility according to our statutes and donation regulations. All operational staff and volunteers work on an honorary basis.

If you provide a mobile number in the donation form, you will receive photos and videos as proof once the project has been carried out – sent directly via WhatsApp.

This applies to all donation types: Qurban sacrifices, water-well construction, food parcels, emergency missions, orphan programmes and more. You see with your own eyes how your donation changes lives.

Yes. The minimum for online donations is CHF 5.–. Qurban donations follow the animal prices per location (e.g. CHF 75.– for a small animal in Uganda).

The default currency is Swiss francs (CHF). Donations in other currencies are converted at the current exchange rate.

No. Swisslamic is not yet recognised as a tax-deductible charitable organisation in Switzerland. Donations to us therefore cannot currently be claimed on your tax return.

After every donation you still receive an automatic confirmation by email – as a personal record of your contribution. We are actively working on fulfilling the formal requirements for tax deductibility.

Yes, anonymous donations are possible. In that case, however, you forfeit the automatic donation receipt and personalised project updates via WhatsApp or email.

Earmarked donations: if the intended purpose cannot be fulfilled, we will contact you. You can then request a refund or allow the donation to be reassigned to a similar purpose.

Non-earmarked donations (e.g. General Donation / Sadaqa): once payment is processed, a refund is generally no longer possible because the money has already been deployed into ongoing projects.

Any surplus (e.g. after a Qurban campaign has been fully executed) is used for other projects of the organisation, in line with our donation regulations.

We treat your data confidentially in line with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and the EU GDPR. We do not share it with third parties – except with our payment provider (RaiseNow AG, Switzerland) and our email service (Mailgun).

You have the right at any time to request information about, correct or delete your data. Details can be found in our privacy policy.

Yes. On most campaign pages you can choose between a one-time donation and a recurring donation (monthly, quarterly or annually). You can pause or cancel a recurring donation at any time.

Child sponsorships are currently in preparation and not yet available. We will announce the launch through our newsletter as soon as the programme goes live.

Qurban

9

Qurban (also spelled Qurbani/Udhiyah) is the ritual sacrifice of an animal at Eid al-Adha, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.) to sacrifice his son Ismail for the sake of Allah.

At Swisslamic the meat is given in full to families in need in our deployment areas – donors in Switzerland do not receive any meat themselves.

Yes. All four major schools of Islamic law (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali) permit a voluntary Qurban on behalf of a deceased relative.

In our donation form you simply enter the name and the number of persons. We pass the names on to the partner carrying out the sacrifice, and you receive photos/videos as proof afterwards.

In our donation form you can choose from the following Qurban types:

Eid al-Adha – the classic Qurban of the Feast of Sacrifice on 10–13 Dhul Hijjah.

Aqiqah – thanksgiving sacrifice after the birth of a child.

Adaq – vow-based sacrifice when you have made a promise to Allah.

Shifa – sacrifice for healing and wellbeing.

Sadaka – a voluntary sacrifice as a general act of charity.

According to the Hanafi school, Qurban is wajib (obligatory) for every mentally sound, adult Muslim who meets the nisab – i.e. who owns wealth beyond their essential needs equivalent to 87.48 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver.

In the other schools (Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali) Qurban is considered a strongly recommended Sunnah Muakkadah.

Qurban is carried out on the three days of Eid al-Adha (10th, 11th and 12th of Dhul Hijjah).

The sacrifice must take place after the Eid prayer – an earlier slaughter does not fulfil the obligation. Swisslamic coordinates the timing with local partners.

Permitted animals are sheep and goats (small animals), cattle and buffalo (large animals, 7 shares) and camels (10 shares). All animals must be healthy and meet a minimum age.

Price at Swisslamic: from CHF 75.– for a small animal in our deployment areas (e.g. Uganda). Current prices per country can be found on each Qurban campaign page.

A Nafile Qurban is a voluntary, additional Qurban beyond the obligatory Eid sacrifice. It can also be offered outside of the Eid days – for example out of gratitude, with a specific supplication or on behalf of a deceased person.

At Swisslamic you can make a Nafile Qurban donation at any time through our Qurban campaign.

Aqiqah is the thanksgiving sacrifice for the birth of a child – ideally on the 7th day after birth. If that is not possible, Aqiqah may also be performed later, as long as the child has not yet reached puberty.

According to the Sunnah, two sheep/goats are slaughtered for a boy and one sheep/goat for a girl. Aqiqah is performed only once in a lifetime per child.

If a surplus remains after all Qurban sacrifices have been carried out as intended, that surplus is used across cost centres for other Swisslamic projects (e.g. food parcels, medical support, water wells).

No franc is left unused. The details are regulated in our donation regulations.

Zakat

7

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam: an obligatory annual contribution of 2.5% on zakatable wealth that has been held for longer than one Islamic lunar year (hawl).

The word Zakat means «purification» – it purifies both your wealth and your heart. At Swisslamic you can donate Zakat via the «Zakat al-Mal» campaign, which includes a built-in Zakat calculator.

Every mentally sound, adult Muslim who reaches the nisab (minimum wealth threshold) and has held that wealth for more than one lunar year is obliged to pay Zakat.

Nisab is the minimum wealth threshold at which Zakat becomes due. Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) set it at the equivalent of 87.48 g of gold or 612.36 g of silver.

Many contemporary scholars recommend the silver-nisab because it is lower, so more people in need benefit from Zakat. You will find the current CHF value in our Zakat calculator on the Zakat al-Mal campaign page.

Add up all zakatable assets: cash, bank balances, gold, silver, shares, business assets, receivables. Subtract any due debts and outstanding liabilities.

If the remainder reaches the nisab and you have held it for one lunar year, your Zakat amounts to 2.5% of that value. Our online Zakat calculator does the maths for you automatically.

Zakatable: cash, bank balances, gold and silver, shares and securities (at market value), business stock, agricultural yields, livestock and receivables that are likely to be repaid.

Not zakatable: your own residence, a vehicle for personal use, personal clothing, household goods and work tools.

The Qur'an (Surah 9, verse 60) names eight eligible groups: the poor (Fuqara), the needy (Masakin), Zakat administrators, those whose hearts are to be reconciled, slaves (historically), those in debt, Fi Sabilillah and stranded travellers.

Swisslamic uses Zakat funds exclusively for the groups named in the Qur'an – primarily the poor and needy in our deployment areas.

Zakat is due once per lunar year – always on the same Islamic date on which you first exceeded the nisab.

Many Muslims pay their Zakat during Ramadan because the reward for good deeds is multiplied in this month. Important: Ramadan is not mandatory for Zakat – what matters is your personal hawl date.

Ramadan & Fitrana

5

Zakat al-Fitr – also known as Fitrana – is an obligatory contribution at the end of Ramadan. It purifies the fast and ensures that those in need can also enjoy a festive meal at Eid.

It is paid per family member – including infants. The head of the household pays on behalf of all dependants.

For 2026 Swisslamic has set the recommended amount at CHF 20.– per person. This corresponds to one sa' (approx. 2.5 kg) of a staple food in our deployment areas.

You can find the «Zakat al-Fitr 2026» campaign on our website. The contribution is paid before Eid, and distribution to those in need happens right after.

Fitrana must be paid at the latest before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. If paid only after the prayer, it counts as ordinary Sadaqah and not as Zakat al-Fitr.

You may pay Fitrana several days before Eid – this was also the practice of the Companions of the Prophet (s.a.w.). Donate early so we can organise distribution in time.

Fidya is a compensatory donation for people who cannot fast for lasting reasons (chronic illness, old age) and cannot make up the missed days later either.

For each missed fasting day a meal is donated to someone in need – in Switzerland the recommended amount is around CHF 10.– per day.

Kaffara is the expiation for intentionally breaking the Ramadan fast without a valid reason (e.g. deliberately eating or sexual intercourse during the day).

Kaffara consists of fasting 60 consecutive days – for those who cannot, feeding 60 people in need a full meal each (approx. CHF 600.– per broken fasting day).

Sadaqah

3

Sadaqah Jariyah («ongoing charity») is a donation that keeps benefiting people – and rewarding the giver – even after their death.

Classic examples: water wells, mosques, schools, trees, copies of the Qur'an and orphan support. At Swisslamic you can fund Sadaqah Jariyah through our water-well projects or education campaigns.

Sadaqah is any voluntary act of charity – a monetary donation, a good deed or even a smile. There is no minimum amount and no time requirement.

At Swisslamic you can give Sadaqah at any time through the «General Donation» campaign – we use it wherever the need is greatest.

Zakat is obligatory and calculated (2.5% of wealth once it reaches nisab), and may only go to the eight groups named in the Qur'an.

Sadaqah is voluntary, has no minimum amount and no restriction on recipients. It can be given at any time to anyone in need.
